Whenever a celeb steps into the spotlight looking slimmer than ever, they always tell us their one special diet trick: drop the booze. It seems pretty common sense at this point, right? It sure is a tough one, as many of us like to have a drink at night before bed or a glass of wine at lunch time. But what if there’s a way you can drink alcohol and still lose weight? As it turns out, drinking alcohol on a diet isn’t unheard of…it’s just a secret. This is the alcohol diet.
What Is the Alcohol Diet?
Actors like Jonah Hill and Zach Galifianakis have gone on record to state that by cutting back on their booze intake, dropping pounds is easier than ever. Why is that, though?
Alcohol is loaded with calories—empty calories. A 12-ounce can of beer amounts to about 150 calories. By drinking the recommended beer limit, two drinks a day, you take in an extra 300 calories. That amounts to 2,100 calories each week.
So, yes, limiting how much alcohol you drink actually greatly helps lose weight.
What’s this alcohol diet then, if alcohol is so detrimental to our weight loss progress? Well, it’s a process, and it isn’t an easy one.
New England Patriot’s Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski picked up the alcohol diet after deciding to make a change to his diet. His regime is modeled after Tom Brady’s own diet, an intense combination of dieting and exercise. Gronk’s is a little different though—he wasn’t ready to give up the party life just yet.
So, he incorporated alcohol into his diet.
Gronk’s party reputation is pretty infamous in the world of NFL, so it comes as no surprise to anyone. But to the surprise of just about everyone, his alcohol diet really works.
Basically, for every alcoholic drink he consumes, he has to follow it with at least three glasses of water to counteract the negative effects of the alcohol. By drinking water, his system is actively flushing itself out while knocking them back.
That’s all fine and dandy, but it turns out to be much much harder than you’d think…when put to the test, alcohol dieters find the experience to be a bit of a buzz kill. That is, when it comes to getting drunk. The alcohol diet allows you to drink, but it makes it very difficult to actually get drunk. However, that just may be a good thing…
After drinking one beer, you have to follow it with three glasses of water—at which point, you’d already be full of liquid, it would be harder to drink another. On top of that, it also reduces your appetite. So, the alcohol diet is essentially an effective liquid diet.
Not many football player diets allow you to drink at all, and a couple of beers is enough to get some stress off before a big game. The great thing about this alcohol diet is, according to Gronk, he’s never felt better. His injuries have greatly reduced, his performance has improved greatly, and he has more energy than he did before.
Of course, you can always opt out of drinking alcohol all together. Then again, it’s okay to have a cheat day every now and then. Safe drinking is the most important thing.
Please diet responsibly.
